Day 2 - Hoover Dam & Grand Canyon

On Day 2, we left Vegas for Hoover Dam! We arrived around 9 AM local time, and explored the rim first, including being in 2 states @ one time (Arizona & Nevada). We then took the Powerhouse tour and saw 8 of the 17 hydroelectric generators that produce power for the surrounding area. We then went up to the observation deck to get a grand view of the dam.

Leaving Hoover Dam, we traveled about an hour to Kingman for a quick bite for lunch. Then headed East to the Grand Canyon. Josh's biggest complaint....wildlife signs, but no wildlife! Upon arriving at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon we hiked approximately 3 miles along the rim. It is amazing at how close you can get to the edge of the Canyon. Josh got brave, courageous, stupid, or all three by going out on the ledge just past the Mather Point lookout spot; then April went even further out and sat down for a photo op. Finished the excursion on the rim at sunset, and then drove to Cameron, about an hour South to stay at The Cameron Trading Post. On the way, @ 60 MPH, we saw 3 elk on the side of the road! So much for no wildlife!!!

No wonder the Grand Canyon is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Word. It is unfathomable and astonishing. Every view is beautiful and breath-taking.
